Apple could turn to AI, but not how you're expecting

Apple has so far been slow to dive into the world of chatbots and ChatGPT, but it does leverage AI in a few of its features. Those include its Camera app, the Photos app, and others. And a new report suggests that AI could be about to get a new job over on the Apple Watch.

With Apple continuing its Apple Watch focus on health a new report claims that the company is working on an AI-powered health feature that would see people receive motivation and suggestions relating to their workouts and eating habits.

An AI-based motivational coach

The report comes via Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, someone who already has a pretty solid track record with these kinds of things.

According to that report, Apple is working on a project codenamed Quartz. That project " is designed to keep users motivated to exercise, improve eating habits and help them sleep better." Gurman cites a contact who has asked not to be identified for obvious reasons.

Notably, the report claims that Apple is getting ready to charge a subscription fee for this service, suggesting that it won't be rolled into the existing Apple Fitness+ offering. The feature will reportedly also get its own app, although those plans could change.

In fact, Gurman points out that Apple could choose to ditch these plans entirely. Project Quartz isn't expected to ship until next year, likely as part of the iOS 18 update that will surely arrive in or around September of 2024.

Gurman reports that the unconfirmed health feature is currently being worked on by multiple teams within Apple including those responsible for health, Siri, and AI. The company's services division is also involved, likely pointing towards the fact that this will be a paid-for option.

Before iOS 18, Apple will announce iOS 17 during its WWDC23 event on 5 June. That update will also be what powers the iPhone 15 lineup of phones when it is likely announced in or around the first week of September 2023.

WhatsApp on multiple Android devices and iPhones

Meta recently rolled out a major update to its instant cross-platform messaging app, WhatsApp, which now allows users to access a single WhatsApp account on up to four devices.

What makes it even more special is the fact that the companion devices will continue to receive messages even if the main device is disconnected from the internet.

Here’s how you can add up to four companion Android smartphones or iPhones to your WhatsApp account. Do note that, at max, one WhatsApp account can be used on up to four devices, which includes smartphones, PCs, and tablets.

If you have an Android smartphone, download the latest version of WhatsApp from the Google Play Store. Similarly, if you are an iPhone user, download or update WhatsApp from the Apple Store.

OnePlus Pad tablet, keyboard and stylus India prices revealed

OnePlus's first tablet, dubbed OnePlus Pad, will be available to pre-order in India on April 28. The company has finally revealed the prices of the tablet weeks after the official launch. The base variant of the OnePlus tablet starts at Rs 37,999, and the top model with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage costs Rs 39,999. Customers will get only one colour option - Halo Green.

Apart from the prices and pre-order date, the company has also revealed bank offers. Customers using ICICI Bank credit cards for regular and EMI transactions will receive Rs 2,000 off. It means the tablet will be effectively available for Rs 35,999 and Rs 37,999, respectively to some customers. If you pay via MobiKwik wallet, a discount worth Rs 2,000 will be available. Users need to use the code "MBK200" at the time of purchase on the OnePlus India website.

OnePlus has also revealed the price of its tablet accessories. The OnePlus Magnetic Keyboard carries a price tag of Rs 7,999, and the White stylus (Stylo) costs Rs 4,999. If you do not want a keyboard but only the case, there's a OnePlus Folio Case for Rs 1,499.

With its new tablets, OnePlus will hope to rival Android tablet makers such as Xiaomi and Samsung. At this price, the tablet will also compete against some Apple iPads.

While the OnePlus is spec-heavy, it lacks a 5G variant, despite using a flagship SoC (system on a chip) from MediaTek.

The OnePlus Pad carries an 11.6-inch LCD display with a 144Hz refresh rate, Full-HD+ resolution, and 500 nits brightness (typical). The tablet draws power from MediaTek's flagship SoC Dimensity 9000 SoC and a 9510mAh battery. The latter supports 65W SuperVOOC charging tech.

The SoC comes paired with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage technologies to help users quickly load and switch between apps. The OnePlus Pad weighs barely 552 grams and measures 6.5mm in thickness.

The rear panel includes a 13-megapixel camera with EIS support. It can record 4K videos at 30fps. The front has an 8-megapixel camera with support for Full-HD recording at 30fps. The OnePlus Pad only has a Wi-Fi variant, and the LTE variant may be added to future-generation tablets. So far, you cannot use your SIM card to access the internet on the go. For audio, there's no 3.5mm audio jack, as OnePlus is trying to boost the sales of its wireless earbuds.

The bundled 44W fast charger promises to charge half of it in 25 minutes. The iQOO Z7 5G runs Android 13 with FunTouch OS 13.

Motorola G73 5G

The Motorola G73 5G is another new addition this month. It is probably the first phone with Mediatek Dimensity 930 SoC in India. Here too you get 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage with an option to expand it further up to 1 TB with a microSD card. This phone has a 6.5-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with a 120 Hz refresh rate. This phone claims to have a water resistant design but there is no IP rating. OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite 5G

Time to bring up the phone with a 108MP camera. Say hello to the new OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite 5G. Generally, I am not fond of OnePlus phones with too many suffixes, but this one is a decent option in this budget. Megapixel count aside, the primary camera is surprisingly good and does most of the heavy lifting. It has a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor to keep company. You get a 16MP front camera for selfies and video calls. This phone too is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 chip, and you get its 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage variant in this budget.
